YouTube is an online video-sharing platform headquartered in San Bruno, California, created by three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim—in 2005. Bought by Google in 2006 for US$1.65 billion, it now operates as one of its subsidiaries. YouTube allows users to upload, view and share videos, rate them with likes and dislikes and make comments, and create playlists. |

#1: After opening on a beta service in May 2005, YouTube had around 30,000 viewers a day just a month later, and 2 million of viewers after 6 months. #2: In March 2006, the site had more than 25 million videos uploaded, and from a repository of amateur videos YouTube turned into the biggest online video platform worldwide. #3: YouTube experimented with live streaming, including a a question-and-answer session with US President Barack Obama in 2010 and rolled out YouTube Live in 2011 for selected partners. #4: In 2019, the estimated number of YouTube users is 1.68 billion. |
